Surprisingly a nice day to start with - the weathermen had threatened showers, but none came, until about 6pm then the heavens opened.
This is one of the few weekend days I have actually spent at the farm - most of my time recently has been spent helping out with shows, so it was nice to have a fairly relaxed day. There was a members walk on, but I had not put down for it, thinking instead that getting on with maintenance work would be a good idea.
We started off by scything the mound in with the North Americans and that went wonderfully well, then the girls went off for their walk. Whilst they were out a few of us carried on. This was good until, whilst cutting through some nettles I hit a hornets nest. They were not best pleased and one of them left me with a swollen face when it stung me near the left temple... Antisan applied now (24 hours later) and I hope it will start going down!
The day was very productive and we cleared a lot of overgrown weeds from the enclosures to smarten them up a little. Plans are afoot to try and make this more regular so that whilst the enclosures will not look groomed, they will be a little more controlled :-)
The visitors appeared to have had a good time on the walk and once they had gone we tidied up and people drifted off home - I met up with a couple of others at the local and had a great Thai curry... followed by Apple pie and ice cream - well, I had been working hard.
