Beenham November 13th 2004

Sorry there were no pictures last week - it was a bit wet, so I did not want to take out my camera and new lens!

Today was an unusual day on two counts;

  1. I was at the Trust on a Saturday
  2. (And this is the reason for number one) an ex-work colleague was on the walk.

Neil's wife had been given a membership as a birthday present from work and they happened to remember that I had said something about the wolves too. I had seen them at Newbury and they let me know when they were going walking, so I arranged to go on the same day.

It is also the first 'cold' day at the Trust. It was not too cold, but I was still glad I had put my thermals on - when out of the sun, there was a deffinite chill.

There was something else really strange about going on a Saturday instead of the Sunday - the other volunteers... a whole bunch that I did not usually get to meet as they normally do Saturdays whilst I do the Sunday...

The format for the day is exactly the same though - arrive, clean, walk, play host, think back on a great day.

  Lots of meets and greets - Duma was good as always, but Dakota is getting restless
She will probably get more so as the winter carries on, then into breeding season.

After the lake I put the camera away as it was my turn to get a handle. It was a good walk back to the trailer. We did stop for one more meet and greet so that the last few people could meet and Niel and Jane came and met Duma who I was handling, which was nice.

Afterwards it was back to the Trust, round the diversions still in place because of last weekends tradgedy on the railways crossing. Perform car park duties, then selling merchandise - which we did quite well at, including another one of the TY Beanie wolves.

After all the visitors had gone I did not hang around, to put out the food like I did last weekend, as there was a ASH / seniors meeting, so it was fairly early home and into a nice HOT bath...

One last thing - there were 4 people there from the Anglian wolf society today - they do think we have great facilities. I hope that at some point in the not too distant future I will be able to go up and visit them, especially as their wolves are related to our Euro's.
